But if there’s one thing you can count on in Oregon and Washington, it’s that there’s always rain right around the corner.
October is still holding on to a dry summer feel, and it will continue to be dry throughout the Northwest according to the Oregon Department of Agriculture and Forestry. However, both departments are predicting a high chance of stormy and wet weather starting in November.
The Farmer’s Almanac is forecasting more rain than usual this winter, and predicts the region will have frequent bouts of warm weather mixed with heavy rainfall.
The upcoming winter’s mix of warmer weather and heavy rains decreases the chances of heavy snow this year, especially in metropolitan areas. University of Washington climatologist Nick Bond says predicting the ski season now is still too speculative, but it likely won’t come close to matching the heavy snow we experienced over the last couple of years.
The heavy rainfall mixed with a dry climate will cause the soil surrounding your home to expand and contract at a high frequency. This means your home’s foundation could likely suffer from the extra pressure from the soil. Heavy rains increase the possibility of a leaky basement or a musty, moldy crawl space.
TerraFirma Foundation Systems has been encapsulating crawl spaces, waterproofing basements, and repairing structural damage for more than a decade. As we get closer to winter, our calendar will continue to fill, so if you want a free inspection of your home’s basement, crawl space, and foundation now is the best time to set up your appointment!
