6.3 Earthquake hits near Coos Bay

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast near Coos Bay on Thursday morning.

The earthquake occurred less than 200 miles off the coast of Coos Bay, but according to the U.S. Geological Survey, more than 300 people reported feeling the ground shake. 

The earthquake struck three miles deep. Because of its magnitude and shallowness, the U.S. Geological Survey is ranking the earthquake as “strong”.
