Portland just had its rainiest January in over a decade
Rain in the Pacific Northwest isn’t uncommon, but Portland and the surrounding area just had its rainiest January since 2006.
National Weather Service meteorologist Gerold Macke told the Willamette Week that as of Jan. 30, the rain total in Portland was 7.39 inches. The last time it rained this much in Portland was 14 years ago when the area received nearly 11 inches of rain, according to the Willamette Week.
The significant rainfall has triggered landslides throughout Oregon. In the last week of January, there was an active landslide in Portland that required closing West Burnside Road between SW Barnes Road and Skyline Boulevard.
2020 is expected to be one of the wettest years of the decade in the Pacific Northwest. Depending on where you live, and how old your house is, your home could be prone to severe water damage this ear if your basement or crawl space isn’t properly waterproofed.
