Gutting the crawl space
Before we transform this crawl space, we'll need to get all the debris out. The main items include the old, worn and dated existing vapor barrier (in bags) and all the damp, sagging insulation (yellow puff).
Original crawl space
Two things to notice here is how dirty the vapor barrier is. A lot of dirt is coming up and over the "barrier". Not much of a "barrier" if you ask me. What else could be getting through. Also the yellow clumps on the ground are fallen insulation. The insulation weighs too much after soaking up enough water, and falls from the ceiling.
Sump pump and dehumidifier
The captured water has to be removed somehow. A mechanical sump pump effectively sucks up and removes water to a safe distance away from the foundation. By installing a dehumidifier, we can successfully condition ALL the air inside the crawl space.
Everlast Vent Cover
By blocking off all vents with Everlast Vent Covers, we can ensure that we are conditioning 100% of the air under the home.
