How do I repair crumbling basement walls?
We have a number of options for repairing and stabilizing crumbling walls. Walls showing cracks can be stabilized with braces custom fit and secured tightly to the walls in question. For walls in really bad shape, our Everbrace Wall Replacement system is a permanent solution.
When should I worry about cracks in my basement floor?
You should be concerned about foundation cracks if the cracks in your basement floor are wider than 1/8 inch, spread to and up the foundation walls, appear in a circular pattern, are wet or show signs of water intrusion, have mold around them, have a white flaky substance around them
How long does foundation repair take?
Scope, size, and type of repair can vary, as will the amount of time a repair can take. However, most repairs can be made within a few days.
Are foundation repairs covered by insurance? / homeowner’s insurance?
Insurance policies vary from home to home and company to company. The best action is always to speak with your insurance company to understand what is covered under your specific policy. Generally, homeowners insurance will cover repairs if the damage can be tied back to an event e.g. leaky water heater, tree fell on house etc.

Which vapor barrier is best for weeping walls?
The VaporLoc Elite Wall System is better for weeping walls than other commonly used vapor barriers. The VLE system has double sealed seams, waterproof material (not water-resistant), and is much thicker than vapor barriers available at retail stores.
How do you waterproof a basement?
Waterproofing a basement includes installing a waterproof, double seam sealed barrier on the walls, and we typically also recommend installing a dehumidifier and drain system. Should I consider a vapor barrier if I’m not planning to finish my basement?
Even if you’re not planning on finishing your basement at this time, our wall panels can create a cleaner, brighter appearance while insulating and waterproofing your basement walls.
Should I be concerned about damp spots on my basement carpet? What should I do?
If you have wet carpet in your basement or damp spots on the floor or baseboards, this could be a sign that you have a leaky basement issue. Wet basements create more problems than just wet carpet. WHAT ARE FOOTING DRAINS?
Footing drains are installed just outside the foundation of your home’s basement. These are thick pipes with holes designed to let water flow inside. A layer of stones is put on top of the drainpipe to prevent soil backfill from blocking the pipe. However, with time, backfill can seep through the stones and clog the pipe. Improperly maintained footing drains can lead to a leaky basement.

Drainage matting should not significantly add to the installation time of your crawl space vapor barrier system. When we send our crew to your home, one member will lay the drainage matting while another installs the liner over the top. A crawl space system usually installs in less than a day.

Crawl space insulation vs encapsulation – which is better?
Crawl space insulation is typically ill-advised on its own. When insulation gets damp or wet, it stays wet. Dampness and mold that is able to grow in your crawl space will move throughout your home. We recommend a setup that includes a double-sealed vapor barrier as well as a dehumidifier and sufficient drainage system.

What kind of foam is used to lift concrete?
High-density polyurethane foam is the expert’s choice for concrete lift. Our PolyLevel solution uses high-density polyurethane foam to fill voids and stabilize sinking concrete slabs. The expanding properties of the two-part urethane formula allow for the lifting of the slab.
How can I get the city to fix the sidewalk?
Generally, sidewalks are owned by local jurisdictions as public right-of-ways, however maintenance and repairs are the responsibility of the homeowner.
How to repair concrete driveway cracks?
A flawless repair starts with a clean work area. Cracks are cleared of debris and cleaned. To seal the cracks it is best to use silicone-based caulking that is applied with a concave shape. A properly sealed crack is key in preventing water intrusion which leads to further cracks and damage.
How to repair concrete spalling?
You can’t really fix spalling, however our NexusPro sealant can prevent/protect existing concrete from spalling.
Can you repair cracked concrete after going through concrete leveling?
Yes. In fact, we recommend that our TerraFirma Concrete Leveling customers seal the cracks and joints of their newly lifted concrete with our NexusPro solution, as it will help protect their concrete for many years to come.
My concrete seems to have settled over the cold season. What should I do?
Your concrete most likely didn’t settle, but instead, the adjacent concrete slabs heaved upwards, due to frozen dirt below. Wait for the ground to thaw and the concrete to return to its original position. If it doesn’t, you may want to have one of our experts take a look to determine if a permanent solution is necessary.
Will the polyurethane foam system withstand heavy rain?
Polyurethane formula is fully waterproof, so it won’t wash out, won’t be impacted by freeze/thaw cycles, and can be used to under-seal slabs and stop a variety of infrastructure leaks.
Can you repair uneven interior floors?
Yes, if you have uneven or unlevel floors in your home, cracks, or separations in doorways, you may need interior slab leveling to restore your floors. Concrete slabs sink and settle over time, and allowing them to go unrepaired can cause serious damage to your home.
Is true level guaranteed?
When dealing with sunken or uneven concrete surfaces such as driveways, or garages, the goal is to achieve a successful lift with concrete repair so that your concrete surfaces are no longer uneven or unsightly. Concrete surfaces should never be perfectly level as concrete that is slightly sloping allows water to run off the surfaces. TerraFirma’s concrete repair system strengthens and stabilizes uneven concrete but true level is not always guaranteed.
Can’t I fix my own driveway?
DIY patches can tackle surface problems, but this won’t fix the underlying problem and more cracks can form in your driveway. Although do-it-yourself repairs might be less expensive, they can be messy, require special tools and equipment, and it can be as long as 30 days before you’re able to use your driveway again!
Does mudjacking work?
Sure, it may work, however, PolyLevel will give superior results. The lifting action in our polyurethane foam system is a result of the expansion of the polymer, allowing for lifting of a much higher load than traditional mudjacking, which relies on hydraulic pressure being contained under a slab.
How much does it cost to lift concrete with foam?
Repairing settled concrete usually costs about half as much as replacement.
What is better: mudjacking or polyurethane?
A Polyurethane solution is not as messy or disruptive as other foundation-lifting techniques like mudjacking. Our PolyLevel solution is lightweight (without compromising strength), and offers faster installation and cure time, making it the best option available.
Is concrete repair more cost-effective than concrete replacement?

My concrete seems to have moved up during the winter months, is this a problem?
If your concrete has shifted up during the winter months, it is most likely heaved from the frozen dirt below the concrete. This is normal, and usually the concrete will return to normal once the ground thaws. If it doesn’t return to its normal position, you may want to have one of our experts take a look to determine if a permanent solution is necessary.
How quickly can a leveled concrete slab be used?
Within just 15 minutes after injection, the concrete slab is ready for heavy loading; compared to conventional mudjacking which takes several days to cure.
Is the polyurethane foam leveling system eco-friendly?
PolyLevel® does not react with soil or moisture; it will not leach harmful chemicals into the soil. It reduces demand for new concrete - one of the worst emitters of CO2 on the planet. Additionally, with our solution, there’s no need to demolish the concrete and transport the waste to a landfill.
Can concrete be leveled when there is the presence of water under the slabs?

Maintenance & Service FAQs
Do you service systems that were not installed by TerraFirma?
No. Our service and maintenance technicians are skilled and trained to service and maintain TerraFirma-specific systems.
How do I change the battery in my sump pump alarm?
There are two small Phillips head screws on the faceplate of the alarm. Unscrew and swap out the 9v battery located inside. It’s important to keep charged batteries in your alarm so that it works when you need it.
How do I know if my system is working?
If you have a waterproofing system, there should be a red water-watch alarm “puck.” This alarm will sound if the sump pump fails and the water level rises to touch the alarm. If you ever hear an alarm coming from your sump pump, please call our service department right away. It is critical to have your drainage system inspected by a professional annually.
What do I do when the power is out, and my sump pump is making noise, or my alarm won’t shut off?
If you hear a continuous and loud alarm, this is likely the Water Watch alarm. If your system is installed in a basement or is easily accessible, simply remove the Water Watch alarm (clearly labeled) from the sump lid, and call to schedule a Service Tech visit. If your system is installed in a crawl space or is difficult to access. Push and hold the Reset button on the remote (blue box) for 3 seconds to mute the alarm for 24hrs and call to schedule a Service Tech visit. If you hear a beep that is not continuous, this is likely your Ultrasump Battery Backup System: The alarm is alerting you that the backup pump is running and will silence when power is restored. If the beep continues to cycle after the power is restored, please call or schedule a Service Tech visit.
What kind of maintenance is required for a sump pump?
Sump pump systems require regular maintenance. They are mechanical devices that have moving parts that can fail if not cleaned and inspected. As part of the maintenance on your system, we plan on flood-testing the sump and discharge line(s) to test the system’s performance and to watch for leaks. How long will my battery backup last in a power outage?
If you have a TripleSafe system, your backup battery-powered pump protects from flooding during power outages. This battery-powered sump pump automatically turns on if your primary pump is not capable of operating due to a power outage, mechanical failure, or an overwhelmed pump. A fully charged battery can remove up to 12,000 gallons of water and depending on use, backup batteries can last approx. 72 hours.
What kind of maintenance is required to make sure my basement waterproofing is still functioning properly?
Regular maintenance of your system can greatly reduce the need for service calls, ensure your system performs efficiently, and increase the life of the repair. Vuba Stone is best used on exterior surfaces because it is UV stable and slip-resistant. Epoxy Coatings are best used on interior surfaces such as garages and basements.
Vuba Stone is often installed over existing concrete surfaces if they are in good condition.
Although it is best to have an existing concrete surface in good condition when installing Vuba Stone, it is still possible to have the installation done if the existing concrete is cracked.
It is suitable for the Pacific Northwest because it is permeable and resistant to freeze/thaw cycles.
Because it allows water to pass through instead of sitting on top of the water, it is more suitable than other surfaces in the Pacific Northwest because of the rainfall.
