Protect Your Home from Rain & Foundation Damage with TerraFirma Services
Seasons are a’changin.
As soon as the rain stops in spring TerraFirma starts fixing concrete. When the rain starts again we turn more to waterproofing. And the rains are coming.
The Hidden Risks of a Wet Basement
You’ve probably seen our commercials for lifting concrete. Our concrete services help you extend the life of your concrete. The main three ways are lifting, sealing, and void filling.

Lifting Concrete
Cement doesn’t last forever. Water gets under the concrete and starts to erode away the dirt. It gets under there from the sides as well as through the seams. If the dirt eroded away evenly it wouldn’t be as much of a problem, but dirt goes where the water takes it. This unevenness can cause the concrete to shift and crack. This motions creates lips where people can trip and new ways for water to get under the concrete making the problem worse.
To get the concrete back up to where it’s supposed to be we pump in a stable foam. This will get your concrete back where it need to be. It also even’s things out getting rid of tripping hazards and mitigate further damage.
Sealing Concrete
We do not provide coatings to seal the surface of concrete, but we do have a crack sealer that will fill the breaks in your cement. Filing these cracks cuts off the flow of water, slowing down the erosion process under your sidewalks and driveways. The crack sealant isn’t the prettiest, but it does the job.

Filling Voids
Whether water gets under the concrete through cracks, joints, or seeps in from the sides, it’s gonna move the dirt. Water helps dirt move around, compact, and settle, but it doesn’t do it evenly. This leaves little spaces under the concrete which can cause the cement to move. Even before the concrete moves or cracks, you can have little voids underneath it.
We drill holes in the cement that we can inject foam into. The foam fills those voids and supports the concrete to mitigate movement and cracking. Concrete won’t last forever, but it will last a lot longer if stabilized.
The wet season is coming.
Soon it will rain, like it always does in the Pacific Northwest. This causes the soil to expand and foundations to leak. Sometimes we can’t do concrete lifting during the wet season, but usually it’s not a problem. People just call us less about it because they’re not outside or staring at their concrete. The rainy season always brings leaks, or at least that’s when people notice them.
The Waterproofing Season
As soon as the first big week of rain comes, people start to see where water is getting under their house. Whether it’s a musty smell or a big ol’ crack, they call TerraFirma. And we’re ready to wrangle that water.
Tell the water where to go.
It’s often more expensive to try to fix all the ways water can get under your home than to just redirect it. We install drainage systems in basements and crawlspaces to redirect water to a sump, then the sump pumps the water out.
Even better, our sumps have a backup pump for too much water, and another backup pump for when the power is out (we call it Triple-safe).
Mitigate Moisture
Even if we’ve got the water going where it’s supposed to, moisture in the air can cause mold or wood rot. If that’s the case we have ways of reducing moisture.
In basements we line the walls with a vapor barrier. In a crawl space we can completely encapsulate it in a vapor barrier. If those don’t get the air dry enough, we can install a de-humidifier to pull the water out of the air and send it to the sump.
Safe | Dry | Stable
We are committed to making people’s homes safe from mold, tripping-hazards, rot, earthquakes, and crumbling foundations. We do this by ensuring the right parts are dry and stable.
The TerraFirma Season
Homes slowly degrade over time. We know, we’ve fixed tens of thousands of homes in the Pacific Northwest. TerraFirma continues to “do it right, or make it right” by our customers so give us a call when your home’s foundations need fixin, because Safe, Dry, and Stable is always in season.
