James Kershaw is a Senior System Design Specialist and company trainer at TerraFirma, where he evaluates residential and commercial foundation, concrete, and waterproofing systems across Oregon and Washington. Over the course of his career, he has inspected thousands of homes throughout the Pacific Northwest, giving him a broad, real-world understanding of how regional soils, climate, and construction practices impact long-term structural performance.

In addition to his field expertise, James develops and delivers training for TerraFirma’s foundation crews and leads educational workshops for realtors and general contractors throughout the region. Coming from a family of civil and mechanical engineers and backed by more than four years of experience in construction services, he brings a deep understanding of supporting structures, soil behavior, and whole-home performance.

A born-and-bred Oregonian, James brings a local’s perspective and a strong commitment to strengthening the communities he serves. Outside of work, he is a lifelong soccer and rugby player and has recently taken up Brazilian jiu-jitsu, pursuits that reflect the discipline, resilience, and problem-solving mindset he brings to his professional work.

Terra Firma recently completed a foundation lift involving 18 push piers and 3 helical. My home is situated on the Columbia River with a sloping hillside down to the river. The crew did a tremendous job installing our pumps and encapsulated system. They took extra care to ensure at each step the membrane was secure and watertight. The crew protected our floors with plastic and cleaned up each day. They put in extra time and effort on a particularly difficult installation. Called TerraFirma because we noticed mold in the crawl space several years after inital encapsolation. Turned out there was very little mold and it was dead. Service reps James and Micky were very thorough and explained how our system was working properly preventing any mold from developing. We appreciated their excelent customer service interface. Estimator Seth patiently answered all my questions allowing me to make an informed decision with no pressure. Foreman James was respectful as he let me know exactly what they were about to do and why. His team including Oscar and Brian were hard consistent workers. They lifted the back on my home 1 and 1/2 inches and all my doors shut for the first time in years.
