There are many sure tell signs of soil or foundation settlement. One of many ways to check for settlement is to simply take a walk around your house and look for cracks in the siding, cracks in the foundation itself, out of alignment windows and frames, and separation between siding pieces to name a few. Below the blue tape is a crack in the poured cement foundation caused by soil settlement. In most cases, this is a clear indication foundation repair is needed.

Cracks around windows and doors

The weakest part of any siding or wall is around door or window fixtures. This is why when settlement has occurred, these are the areas you will see most cracking both inside and outside.

Unevenness in siding or paneling usually means an unevenness to the sols below. When soils are misaligned, it causes all structures above to be misaligned with it.
